BENEFITING: Martin Richard Foundation
ORGANIZER: Martin Richard Foundation
EVENT: MR8 NYC Marathon
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
This November I will be running the New York City marathon with Team MR8 on behalf of the Martin Richard Foundation. Martin was only eight years old when the senseless bombings at the finish line of the Boston Marathon took his life, and his family - including his two young siblings - have made it their mission to fill the world with kindness through investments in education, athletics and community on Martin's behalf.
Martin was a boy who loved learning, sports and the world around him. He was a school peacemaker and recognized at a young age that while we are all different, we are all the same. The way Martin saw the world anything was possible. Having attended the Boston Marathon when I was Martin's age, and for many years after, I also had the chance each year to watch thousands of people literally do the impossible and make their own dreams come true. In that sense, Martin is me. I stood where he stood. I cheered where he cheered. I probably got a little bit bored or asked for a snack or wondered how tired each of the runners was where he did all of those things. There is a feeling of connection that I just can’t shake.
Please learn more about Martin and the inspiring work of his family at http://www.teammr8.org/. I would be so grateful if you would also consider a donation to my fundraising efforts. As a member of an athletically-minded and ambitious social circle, I know the demands for fundraising support are many; I myself stick to a "if I can't give to all I won't give to any" plan in most cases, but the cause and care of this family has struck me in a way that I can't ignore and I would appreciate any support you are willing or able to provide.
Thank so much!
