BENEFITING: Jack H Marston II Melanoma Fund
EVENT DATE: Oct 09, 2016
We are a father - daughter duo, both Melanoma survivors and avid distance runners. We run to enjoy and celebrate life. In October, we are running the Chicago Marathon to raise support for Jack's Fund, a Melanoma Fund for research and awareness.
Both of our lives have been touched by the disease, making us personally invested in this cause. Pete Daly was diagnosed with stage III Melanoma when he was 49, in 2002. More recently, Mary Daly found out about her stage 1b diagnosis earlier this year, in May of 2016.
As Mary grew up going to running races to watch Pete, and Pete pushed Mary in a baby jogger, she eventually followed her father's footsteps and took to pounding pavement after him. Running has always been an activity the two like to do together - from the days when Pete would wake Mary up to catch a local race in Madison, to now, when the two squeeze in a few runs whenever they are together.
We would love your support on this journey while Pete trains to run his # 25+ (he's lost count) marathon and Mary trains to run her first!
*Fighting Melanoma Every Step of the Way*
Join us in support of an incredible group of athletes who have chosen to make their marathon experience more meaningful by raising funds to fight the deadly disease melanoma. We invite you to help them reach their goals and join the fight.
Our Vision: "We envision a world where every adult and child is aware of the risks of melanoma and takes preventative measures; where those who suffer from melanoma receive comfort and healing; and ultimately, where every case of melanoma will be completely curable."
2016 Goal: Raise $100,000 for melanoma research and awareness programs.
- Melanoma is the most underfunded of all cancers by federal and private agencies.
- Early detection makes melanoma highly curable, but it is the least screened cancer.
- People find their own melanoma more frequently than doctors do and melanoma detection is not a training requirement for most medical disciplines.
Jack’s Team: Established in 2005 when a group of athletes came together to join the fight against melanoma. Jack's Fund has been an official marathon charity for 12 years and disbursed over $300,000 to research. We invite athletes of varied experience from all stages of life to join Jack’s Team.
Our success stems from a unique - SPF - Strength, Passion and Focus each member brings to the team.
