Maryanne Rose Birmingham is Fighting Very Rare Cancer
Organized by: Jenny Stratton
Maryanne aka Matty May 2015. Before diagnosis the day before Thanksgiving.
November 11, 2016
My little sister Maryanne Rose Birmingham was given the devastating news of having Cancer the day before last Thanksgiving. She and the love of her life (Kevin) married the April before and live in Mesa, AZ. For those that have had the chance to meet her and have her in your life you know the incredibly genuine, beautiful, loving, thoughtful, giving, loyal, reliable, caring woman she is. If you haven't had the chance to meet her. Let me tell you a little about her. Maryanne aka "Matty" is very rare. She is always thinking of others, putting their needs before her own. Continuing to love and support all those in her life no matter if they deserve it or not. As her older sister I saw people close that took her for granted. She always stays positive, smiling, and is in her integrity. Her energy and the love she gives makes an impact on everyone she meets. She lights up the room. Never asks for help. She gives unconditionally and loves you as you are. At age 29, life suddenly came to a halt. We received the very troubling news Maryanne was diagnosed with Cancer. Somewhat relieved at first when diagnosed this was not Melanoma but rather a form of Lymphoma. " WE GOT THIS" was the phrase that came to mind. Shortly thereafter we received the scary news that it was a very rare form of Cancer called PLASMACYTOID DENDRITIC CELL TUMOR. This is a rare form of Cancer that resembles Leukemia and we were informed it had spread in her ankle. After many trips and many unforeseen cancelled appointments she was finally able to get in to see Dr. Musci. He gave us hope for a treatment center that provides her with treatment that specializes in her type of Cancer. This lead to a great deal of stress as Kevin provides insurance and cannot be there for every appointment as it is a long journey. Unfortunately, it is in LA, California. After flying and meeting with the Oncologist. She was accepted. However, insurance denied her treatment for the City of Hope. Maryanne's Oncologist in Mesa, AZ immediately started her with very aggressive Chemo. After many tests, bone marrow biopsy, etc... She was no longer able to work. Spending countless days in the hospital. Her Doctor sent us siblings packages to get our blood tested so we could find out which one of us may be the best fit for a Bone Marrow Transplant. Our littlest sister, Amy was one of the matches and asked for a leave from work, traveled from Utah to Mesa, AZ. Amy had to have tests run, donate bone marrow, blood, hospital stay and do all she could to help Matty. Maryanne's insurance denied and continues to deny the claims submitted. Her Doctor has been trying to fight with the insurance company. Unfortunately, the interest keeps piling upon the medical bills. They are making payments and paying all they can. Many friends, family have helped all they can. We are forever grateful for those that have been able to send Maryanne and Kevin money, cards, gifts, words of encouragement, etc.. Matty would never ask for help.... So, I'm asking for your help to donate anything you can to get my little sister Maryanne the help that she so desperately needs. The more positive thoughts and less worries will help her on her Journey. Please make a donation to get her better so she can enjoy many more adventures with the ones she loves. Any money left over after a great success of treatment and road to recovery will be donated in your names to LA City of Hope and Ironwood Cancer Research Center. Thank You, In Maryanne's name Cancer - Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cell Tumor Warrior WE GOT THIS!!! Thank you in advance for any donations. Sincerely, Jenny M. (Rose) Stratton aka Jenn (Maryanne's older sister)
