Still on a running high from…
Still on a running high from this past weekend...

The third event of my Run for MDA tour is in the books. My first ultra marathon (52.4 miles) and boy was it a doozy. I've never been pushed so far physically and mentally. Besides the long mileage, starting at midnight and running through the night was an added challenge. Going off route not only added a few more miles (which I don't credit for) but also added to the beating my mind and body took. I would be lying to you if I said I didn't realistically think about quitting. However, I had to trust the struggle and embrace this moment. I thought about those who have trouble with or can't run. I thought about my little girl...and though my mind and body wanted to quit, I remembered who's watching.

Congrats to all the The SF Marathon runners especially my running families Concrete Runners Mission I'm-POSSIBLE Worldwide WeRunSF Team SFOG

Special thank you to all at the cheer station, somewhere else on the course, or there with me in spirit. I heard all your yells and hollers as well as the cowbells and music...but more importantly, I felt all the love

And of course, much love and appreciation to you and all of the donors who have helped me provide awareness and inspiration towards creating a world free from the harmful effects of muscular dystrophy, ALS, and other life-threatening diseases.

Now the question is will Il do that ultra again? For those who asked me prior to this race, I probably told you that I only wanted to do it one time so I check it off my bucket list. However, if you ask me now, I'll tell you that I plan to do it again next year. This race will always hold a special place my heart since it catapulted my whole campaign and allowed me to share my daughter's story. Though this race was both grueling and challenging, I truly believe it got the best of me. So I think I need to give it another shot.

Also, Ava and I have ben already brainstorming about what our next year's Run for MDA campaign will consist of and she had so much at the cheer station that she wants me to crack the top #5 so I told her that I can't promise anything but I will sure try. She made a promise to me too that I'm so excited to share with you all very soon.

Stay tuned as I continue to Run for MDA.
Next stop...Chicago.

Run for MDA cheer station at the SF Marathon
- Sunday, July 31 at 8:30 AM - 11 AM
- Brannan Street Wharf, San Francisco, California 94105

This will be the day I take on the San Francisco UltraMarathon as part of my Run for MDA campaign and I would love to see all of your beautiful faces...and so would Ava.

Though not an official MDA Team Momentum race, I am still running for them and Ava will head our Run for MDA cheer station.

Hang out at Brannan Street Wharf (Brannan Street and the Embarcadero, next to Pier 38) and cheer on all the runners including my folks with Concrete Runners, Mission I'm-POSSIBLE Worldwide, WeRunSF, and Team SFOG.

There's free-metered parking in most places in downtown but there will also be alot of traffic due to street closures because of the race. Please plan accordingly.

Stay updated via my 'Run for MDA' page at: https://www.facebook.com/RunForAva

Thank you for your continuous love and support.

Reminiscing about this past weekend...

The second event of my Run for MDA tour is in the books.
Nothing but appreciation goes out to you all for the continuous support and love throughout my journey to Run for MDA.

Beautiful course, nice overcast, and good vbes...but may I say that I hated miles 22-25 while running on Highway 163. Those were really tough miles. I struggled but kept myself motivated by thinking of my daughter and others who face struggle even more doing things that most of us including myself take for granted.

Besides this great race, I got to meet even more folks from my MDA family. Thanks so much for welcoming my family especially Ava with open arms. Also, thanks for allowing me to share my daughter's story and passion. This really brought more sMILEs to Ava.

Congrats to all the Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Marathon & 1/2 Marathon runners especially all of MDA Team Momentum team and a couple from my Concrete Runners CRew, @JayLo and @Eddaddy

Much love and appreciation to all of the donors who have helped me provide awareness and inspiration towards creating a world free from the harmful effects of muscular dystrophy, ALS, and other life-threatening diseases.

Special thank you to the Morales family for making us feel right at home and cheering me on at the finish line, to the Uys for hosting a relaxing pool get-together and coming out to show love on race day, and to the Hernandez family for also coming out to show their support.

Stay tuned as I continue to Run for MDA.

Reflecting back at this past…
Reflecting back at this past weekend...

The first event of my Run for MDA tour is in the books. And might I say that Denver was simply amazing even though the race was pretty tough due to high altitude, dry air, and cold temperatures.

I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming support and encouragement. on my journey to Run for MDA.

Besides the race itself, I met such a great network of individuals and was honored with being the MDA Team Momentum Top Fundraiser (Multi Event). But what topped it all off was I had the privilege of speaking at the pre-race celebration dinner to share my daughter's story. This definitely brought sMILEs to Ava's face and made all my training and adversity well worth it when she told me that she was proud of me for what I'm doing for her and she's so happy.

Much love and appreciation to all of the donors who have helped me provide awareness and inspiration towards creating a world free from the harmful effects of muscular dystrophy, ALS, and other life-threatening diseases.

Special thank you to Patricio and Joyce for the warm Denver hospitality and to Southwest Airlines for getting us to Mile High City.

Big shout out to my running family who motivate and inspire me everyday: Concrete Runners Mission I'm-POSSIBLE Worldwide WeRunSF @TeamSFOG

Stay tuned as I continue to Run for MDA.
Next stop...San Diego.

Hey Maryann, Words cannot e…
Hey Maryann,

Words cannot express how humbled I am by your support, love, and generosity in my campaign to 'Run for MDA'. I didn't know what to think when I started this campaign. Most of our family and friends didn't know about Ava's condition. We wanted to wait til she felt she was ready to let the world know. And now being that time, I wanted to bring awareness to her loved ones and encourage Ava to keep fighting everyday. It will be a long journey, but I feel God has blessed my amazing little sweetheart with so much to give to the world... not to mention she is so blessed to have people like you who care for her and are behind her. On behalf of Ava and my family, I want to say thank you. You have helped bring more sMILEs for Ava.

Keep doing what you're doing. Hope to catch you sometime soon on the concrete, track, or somewhere.

As I 'Run for MDA', I have created a Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/RunForAva/) where I will periodically post things about Ava related to her health/condition (though we will still keep some things private) and about my fitness progress/goals/challenges related to Ava.

p.s. Ava may get a little embarrassed when talking about the subject so please tread lightly if you talk to her about it. But she said she is ok with share her story and experiences, so need to avoid it.
