We want to offer awesome, online, primary source based lesson plans through the HIP! program FREE to elementary and middle school students throughout the Maryland public school system.
HIP (Historical Investigations Portal) is Maryland Historical Society's ground breaking e-portal that offers online, interactive historical lesson plans allowing students to work with primary source documents, images, and objects.
Why create this program anyway?
With the shift in focus to STEM in public schools, social studies teachers often have little, if any, new resources to work with. At the same time they are saddled with new recomendations to offer more student-centered, inquiry based lesson plans which are more complicated and time consuming to create. Their candle is burned at both ends!
HIP has taken the work load off teachers by creating compelling, interactive lesson plans that get kids excited about history topics while also engaging them in thought provoking historical investigations!
Help us offer HIP to every MD public school!
