On April 17 I will have the privilege of running my first Boston Marathon on behalf of Family Aid Boston. I am very excited to be running for such a great organization. This will be my second marathon. I previously ran the Providence Marathon last May. I never really got to enjoy that Marathon though, as my father was very ill at the time and passed away while I was in running in Providence. He was so proud of me. He is now my guardian angel who will watch over me as I make the trek from Hopkington to Boston.
As hard as the training will be during the long and cold winter months, nothing compares to the hardship some families face dealing with homelessness. I hope you will consider a donation to such a great cause. Thank you for your support.
The mission of FamilyAid Boston is to prevent and end homelessness, one family at a time. Each night, thousands of families in Massachusetts are sleeping in shelters because they cannot afford the high cost of housing. Others have no choice but to spend the night in their cars, emergency rooms, or even on the streets.
By supporting FamilyAid Boston’s 2017 Boston Marathon team, you are helping us to prevent families from losing their homes, provide shelter for homeless parents and children, and develop more affordable permanent housing in Boston. We hope you will join us in our efforts to create a city in which every parent and child has access to safe, stable housing.
$35 feeds a homeless family in a shelter for just one day.
$75 connects a homeless mother or father with an employment specialist who will help him/her write a resume and begin a job search.
$92 which represents the 92 cents of every dollar spent at FamilyAid Boston that goes directly to helping homeless families (or you can just round up for an even $100).
$300 ensures that an on-call worker is available 24/7 for one week to place homeless families in emergency shelters.
$500 connects 6 families living in shelter with a social worker who will help them save money, get the services they need, and create a plan to get them back into housing.
$1,500 is the average cost to resolve an at-risk family’s housing crisis, keeping them in their home and out of shelter.
