THE STORY:

I recently accepted the challenge to join the local fight against breast cancer by participating in the Komen Connecticut Race for the Cure on June 6, 2015.

I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer on January 24, 2012.  That year turned out to be a fantastic year with the best team of doctors, nurses, family and friends we attacked the cancer and made it through the hardest part!  As time moved forward (3+ years since diagnosis), my "day to day" has evolved back to a hectic schedule.  That said, I strive for balance and to enjoy the little things that I appreciated so much in 2012!  I was extremely fortunate and am forever grateful for the team I have - again - the best team of doctors, nurses, family and friends!  I couldn't have done it without them!

Yet again, this year I am not in my running "prime" - I just did not get back into a grove, given all the challenges of last year - but I am looking forward to this event and focusing on physical activity & having fun!  Although I may not have a "personal best" in this 5K, I will participate, I will appreciate every moment, "taking it all in" and being thankful, as well as honor all of those currently "in the fight", those who have won, and those who have lost the battle.

I have run this race every year since 2009, it has always had meaning to me, and now it is much more personal and it's to set a goal for myself - to be back running and to enjoy all of it!  I will do this regardless of weather - raining, hot or very nice day!!

It will be great if you are able to join us for this fantastic event!  Or come cheer us on!  Like the past 3 years, our team name is BELIEVE - that has been our motto through this diagnosis and will continue to be forever.  I cannot express in words how grateful I am for your support!

Below is a note from Komen, CT:

Race for the Cure Greater Hartford started in 1994 and has remained a staple in the Greater Hartford community ever since. Through funds raised by our Race participants, Komen Connecticut has contributed to funding more than $23 million in breast cancer research, local education, screening and treatment. Every dollar raised by Race for the Cure makes a lasting impact in the fight against breast cancer.

Did you know that Connecticut has the HIGHEST incidence of breast cancer in the U.S. with over 3,000 Connecticut women diagnosed annually? Komen Connecticut needs YOU as a part of our crusade to end breast cancer forever. Your fundraising efforts will help save the lives of Connecticut women.

More treatment. More research. More survivors. A cure.
