Mary's fight with Breast Cancer

Mary Sheets wrote -My name is Mary. I am 33 years old. I have 2 beautiful children with my husband; ages 5 and 6 weeks. My journey with breast cancer started when my newborn was 10 days old; and so began a whirlwind of appointments. The cancer had spread to the lymph nodes. Current plan is for 3 months of chemo due to the aggressiveness of the type of cancer, future double mastectomy, and 6 weeks of radiation. All in all - 9 months. While my husband and I had planned financially for my 8 week maternity leave, we did not plan for the financial burden of an extended/additional leave and doctor bills.
The American cancer society has been with me since my journey with breast cancer began. They provided literature for me on how to tell our 5 year old son that mommy was sick, information on cancer, and classes on how to take care of my body throughout the process. Specifically, the American Cancer Society provides a class called Look Good, Feel Better. This class is provided to women to learn skills to continue to feel beautiful during chemotherapy.
Contributions made will help me and my family make it through my additional medical leave with its loss of income. Any additional funds will be donated to the American Cancer Society as I hope that others can benefit the way I have from this wonderful organization.
