Get Your Rear in Gear is North America's largest 5K races series raising awareness and money for colon cancer prevention.
Too many people are ashamed or embarrassed to talk about Colon or Rectal Cancer. In fact, to quote a survivor.."we all start out equipped the same way and when something goes wrong we try to get it fixed. We all go to the bathroom, we all look afterwards (looking saved me), we wipe, we flush, and we start the cycle all over again. It becomes a taboo subject as it makes some people feel uneasy or grossed out. There is no shame about taking care of your body!" I'd like to see the day when Colon/Rectal Cancer 'comes out of the closet.' When more people will take the the time to educate themselves, and not be ashamed to say Colon or Rectal in the same sentence as Cancer. Years ago breast cancer was like that. Such a taboo subject because of the word BREAST. But the more people became educated and not afraid to the say the word, Breast Cancer has really 'come out of the closet' and has garnered lots of money for research and care. The goal of my fundraiser is to have CRC travel that same path and become a cancer that nobody should be ashamed to talk about.
