BOYCHILD AGENDA INTERNATIONAL
Homa-Bay County is one of the fastest growing county and town in Kenya. It is one of the forty seven counties with grueling youth unemployment challenges and high boy child school drop-out cases. This problem is orchestrated majorly by the fact that the county is surrounded by Lake Victoria. Most youth mainly boys resort to fishing rather than going to school to learn. And this comes with a lot of vices including high HIV&AIDS; prevalence among the teenage and youths, drug abuse, and crime rates. Most schools in the county lack basic learning facilities such as chairs, lockers, reading materials and well built classes, due to these challenges some schools end up offering classes under trees and others due to the lack of lockers students take their classes while sited on the floor, hence, pupils/students are not comfortable during the lesions . These factors makes learning unbearable to a number of young people who sort the only solution to the matter is to drop out of school. The facility is not going to sort the class or learning issue but address the issue of potential talents of these young people and ensure that they are occupied with something that can bear from being involved in unproductive activities. It is on this platform that Boychild Agenda International whose main mission is to address boy child plight saw a need to establish a Youth resource complex known as Mashinani Youth Development Complex (MYDEC). Currently there is no other facility similar to the proposed facility in Western Region of Kenya- formerly Nyanza province and Western Province. The facility will equip Young athletes and sportsmen with top notch techniques to make them the best in global championships. The sports facility is tailored at researching and nurturing talent in Homa-Bay and its environs. The construction of the facility MYDEC will cost One Million United States Dollars. The proposed institution aims at being an international centre for excellence in sports through promotion of competitive training research and application of modern technology in development of sports. The country has excelled through natural talent which needs to be harnessed and developed. The project will be done in faces and the first phase will comprise of an Administration Block, indoor sport facilities, various pitches, ablution block, swimming pool, library, computer lab and sports medical facilities. The second phase will incorporate residential apartments (accommodation). In this regard, we appeal to sponsors, well wishers, the private sector and public private partnership to come on board and assist us in completing this important project that is set to transform youths through sports industry in this country. The facility will serve other emerging sports people both in the region and abroad. The complex is expected to attract international sports persons as well as local sporting bodies for training camps or specific team preparations. The complex will offer opportunities that will engage with and challenge the youth through innovative approach that taps into their talent in order to boost their opportunities for improved livelihoods that are in line with their aspirations and needs of the communities they live in. The facility will focus more on sports for social impact programmes in the community.
