I've already taught my first classes to CCAI. Please help me reach my goals so I can teach more!
Like many, I was led by my heart to serve through nurturing touch. More than a decade ago, I worked at a rather stressful job in global logistics where I watched many of my colleagues suffer from autoimmune diseases and cancer at very young ages. I began to understand the potential consequences of living in extreme stress and chose to change my lifestyle and pursue a career in massage therapy.
When building my practice, my mission was to make massage affordable, accessible, and an important component in everyday wellness. When I think about whether or not I actually make a difference, I reflect on the clients in my practice and recognize that massage has helped them manage pain from arthritis, fibromyalgia, Lupus, Lyme’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, severe scoliosis, and during postsurgery rehabilitation. I’ve offered support and relief during chemotherapy and radiation; helped prepare them for marathons and other sporting events; supported them before and after pregnancy with prenatal and postpartum massage; and offered on-job stress relief with onsite chair massage.
My most important heart’s work has been working with abandoned children, children with disabilities, and women and children living in poverty in Peru. With help from one of my clients and my Peruvian friend, we established a nonprofit, Project Inti, to continue to support this (and other) work in Peru. We’ve only scratched the surface of what I know we can do there. To balance my work in Peru with a need to serve locally, I have had incredible experiences working with single mothers living in poverty in Denver, who may never have had healthy role models. I have been honored to teach them nurturing touch as an important parenting tool to help them bond with their children.
There's also a hard-core side of me! I love to hike mountain peaks and ski Colorado’s slopes. So this opportunity to run the Boston Marathon and be part of the Massage Therapy Foundation’s Running for Research team also feeds my soul. I’m honored to advance the profession through research and support other therapists doing great work.
My goal is to raise $15,000.
To meet that goal, I am adding extra incentive for you to donate to support massage therapy research. For every $1,000 I raise for MTF, I will donate my services to teach a one-hour parent/child massage class to parents adopting children and/or parents hosting orphans from Haiti and China through CCAI Adoption Services.
Thank you for your support. Together we can make a difference.
