BENEFITING: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
I am beyond thrilled to be running the 2015 Boston Marathon with the Mass General Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Marathon Team! It has been a dream of mine to run the Boston Marathon and I cannot think of a more perfect team to be a part of. As a nurse on one of the inpatient pediatric units at MGH, I have been able to care for the young patients and meet their families. Each patient has a unique story and journey with cancer. Their courage in the face of illness is something which has inspired me. Their strength will get me through the long training runs in the bitter cold and help me cross the finish line in April!
Since 1998, the Mass General Marathon Team has raised over $10 million to support the pediatric hematology-oncology program at MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC). The funds raised go directly to cancer care and research initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the hospital’s youngest cancer patients. A large part of these donations goes towards the Child Life Program which is part of the inpatient and outpatient treatment centers. The program utilizes developmentally appropriate therapeutic play as a way to help the children cope with their illness and treatments.
As a member of the team, I have a fundraising goal of $5,000. Every dollar donated goes to better the lives of the children currently fighting cancer and to improve treatments for future patients. Any donation towards the team is more than appreciated!
