BENEFITING: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
I am extremely honored to have been chosen as a member of Massachusetts General Hospital's ‘Fighting Kids' Cancer...One Step at a Time’ Marathon Team! I will be running in the 119th Boston Marathon in order to raise money in support of pediatric cancer research and patient care programs at MGH’s Children’s Cancer Center.
Come April 20th, I am proud to say that I will be lining up in Hopkinton with one of my oldest friends, Lindsey Beggan. Years ago, our families were up north skiing when Lindsey told us that she felt something “weird” on her ribs— soon thereafter we learned she had cancer. It was devastating from so many perspectives. She was treated by the tremendous Pediatric Oncology Team at MGH and is still under their excellent care today. Lindsey has become a legend at MGH with a life size picture of her being the focal point of a huge mural in the Cancer Center! Lindsey is proof of what cancer research can do and I am running to raise money for all of the kids still waiting for a cure. Compared to the struggle these oncology patients go through, training through this historic winter is nothing!
The MGH Pediatric Cancer Team is remarkable—but they need the financial support of others to continue to provide these kids with the care and services they need. If you know someone that has needed their services, donating is obvious and easy. If you haven’t needed them, be thankful and support these remarkable doctors and nurses that have dedicated their lives to helping families in the most difficult of times.
I hope you will join me in supporting this very special program that is near and dear to my heart! Your donation, and all funds raised by the MGH Marathon Team, will go directly to the MGH for Children Cancer Center and help support clinical and laboratory research in childhood cancer, as well as supportive care programs including wellness services, support groups, and child life specialists who help patients cope with illness and treatment.
Thanks so much for your support and encouragement! Together we can make a difference in the lives of these kids, Fighting Kids' Cancer...One Step at a Time.

Since 1998, with the partnership of John Hancock, the Mass General Marathon Team...Fighting Kids’ Cancer, One Step at a Time...has raised over $10 million to support the pediatric hematology-oncology program at MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC). Funds raised are directed to cancer care and research initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the hospital’s youngest cancer patients.
Thanks in large part to the philanthropic dollars raised by the Mass General Marathon Team...Fighting Kids’ Cancer One Step at a Time.... MGHfC is advancing cutting-edge research, increasing the number of clinical studies to improve cure rates, and providing the best treatment possible to pediatric cancer patients. MGHfC is also focused on the quality of life of its young patients and their families through the child life program, which utilizes therapeutic play - music and art therapy to help pediatric cancer patients and their families cope emotionally and developmentally with their illnesses.
This year, more patients than ever before utilized Child-Life services, which indicates the growing popularity of the programming, the recognition of its importance, and the program’s ability to continue to expand its offerings.
We are grateful for the hard work of all of our runners and the dedication of their family and friends, as they embark on fundraising and training for the historic 26.2 mile. Mass General and Boston...Together We Finish!
