BENEFITING: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
Hello friends and family! I have once again joined the Mass General Marathon Team to raise money to support pediatric cancer research and patient care programs at the Mass General Hospital for Children Cancer Center. This year I am running for Gavin, a wonderful 8 year old boy who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) at age 5. Although Gavin has battled Leukemia for 3 years now, thanks to MGH and supporters like you his treatments have been successful and he is doing well.
As I train for this race, during snowstorms and icy roads, I am constantly motivated by the courage and perseverance of Gavin and the many young children with cancer, who run their own medical marathons each day.
I hope I can count on you to support my marathon run by contributing to this very special program. Any amount that you can give will clearly have a positive impact in the lives of these children. Thank you so much for your support!
The funds raised by the Mass General Marathon Team go directly to the MGH Cancer Center and help support clinical and laboratory research in childhood cancer, as well as supportive care programs including art and music therapy; parent, teen and sibling support groups; and child life specialists, who help patients cope with illness and treatment.

Since 1998, with the partnership of John Hancock, the Mass General Marathon Team...Fighting Kids’ Cancer, One Step at a Time...has raised over $10 million to support the pediatric hematology-oncology program at MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC). Funds raised are directed to cancer care and research initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the hospital’s youngest cancer patients.
Thanks in large part to the philanthropic dollars raised by the Mass General Marathon Team...Fighting Kids’ Cancer One Step at a Time.... MGHfC is advancing cutting-edge research, increasing the number of clinical studies to improve cure rates, and providing the best treatment possible to pediatric cancer patients. MGHfC is also focused on the quality of life of its young patients and their families through the child life program, which utilizes therapeutic play - music and art therapy to help pediatric cancer patients and their families cope emotionally and developmentally with their illnesses.
This year, more patients than ever before utilized Child-Life services, which indicates the growing popularity of the programming, the recognition of its importance, and the program’s ability to continue to expand its offerings.
We are grateful for the hard work of all of our runners and the dedication of their family and friends, as they embark on fundraising and training for the historic 26.2 mile. Mass General and Boston...Together We Finish!
