BENEFITING: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
I’m training for the 2015 Boston Marathon as a member of the Mass General Hospital Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Team. As a team member I’m raising money to support pediatric cancer research and other patient care programs at the Children's Cancer Center at MGH
In October 2013 I learned firsthand what an amazing place MGH is during a stay there to get things right with my heart. I’ve been back for appointments many times since and every time I do so I’m reminded of how lucky I am. As I navigate the busy hallways of MGH I see families doing the same, with a child who is the patient. I know nothing in the world matters more to those parents than getting their kids better, and if they could swap places and take on the sickness themselves 100% of them would do so. These encounters are a constant reminder of how fortunate I am to have three healthy children.
At the same time though it’s good to know I live so close to a place like MGH should the unthinkable happen. The Mass General Hospital for Children relies on contributions from people like yourselves to fund their operations. Every dollar donated to my fundraising effort will help sponsor cancer-curing research and support programs that help make the lives of families who are consumed with battling their child's cancer a little bit easier.
Thank you in advance for helping me exceed my fundraising goal with your generous support.

Since 1998, with the partnership of John Hancock, the Mass General Marathon Team...Fighting Kids’ Cancer, One Step at a Time...has raised over $10 million to support the pediatric hematology-oncology program at MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC). Funds raised are directed to cancer care and research initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the hospital’s youngest cancer patients.
Thanks in large part to the philanthropic dollars raised by the Mass General Marathon Team...Fighting Kids’ Cancer One Step at a Time.... MGHfC is advancing cutting-edge research, increasing the number of clinical studies to improve cure rates, and providing the best treatment possible to pediatric cancer patients. MGHfC is also focused on the quality of life of its young patients and their families through the child life program, which utilizes therapeutic play - music and art therapy to help pediatric cancer patients and their families cope emotionally and developmentally with their illnesses.
This year, more patients than ever before utilized Child-Life services, which indicates the growing popularity of the programming, the recognition of its importance, and the program’s ability to continue to expand its offerings.
We are grateful for the hard work of all of our runners and the dedication of their family and friends, as they embark on fundraising and training for the historic 26.2 mile. Mass General and Boston...Together We Finish!
