BENEFITING: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
Dear Friends and Family,
With less than four days to go until we hit the course in Hopkinton, I want to thank everyone who has contributed to my fundraising campaign for the MGH Pediatric Cancer Center to honor the memory of my daughter’s friend, Megan Sheehy. Your support has been so uplifting during this wacky winter training season. More importantly, your donations are vital for the mission of MGH to provide exemplary care for pediatric cancer patients and their families and to invigorate their programs to find a cure.
I am really looking forward to passing through the large MGH cheering zone at Mile 20 in what will be a sea of light blue near Heartbreak Hill. If you are interested in following my progress, I will be wearing bib #11566 and starting in Wave 2 at around 10:25 a.m.
If you know anyone who may be interested in donating, please consider forwarding a link to this page.
Thanks and Love to all!
Hello Friends and Family!
I am excited to share that I have joined the Mass General Marathon Team, Fighting Kids’ Cancer . . . One Step at a Time and plan to run the historic 119th Boston Marathon on April 20 to raise money for pediatric cancer research and patient care programs at the Mass General Hospital for Children (MGHfC) Cancer Center. A lifelong North Shore runner, I relish this great opportunity to advocate for MGHfC while qualifying to participate in my first ever Boston marathon.
As many of you are aware, my daughter Niamh recently lost her dear friend Megan Sheehy who succumbed after a yearlong battle with osteosarcoma. Throughout her ordeal, Megan inspired us with her grace, determination, and zest for life. MGHfC was instrumental in guiding Megan and her parents, Tim and Jean, along this unfathomably challenging path and enhancing their opportunities to celebrate life and Love Strong. One such celebration was “Rock for Meg,” her idea for a music fundraiser where she, Niamh and others performed to pay it forward, supporting the mission of Angels Above who raised her spirits during her time at MGH.
Megan’s generosity has stirred me to help more MGHfC families in her honor, and I need your help to reach and exceed my fundraising goal of $5000. The funds raised by our team go directly to the MGHfC Cancer Center for clinical and laboratory research in childhood cancer, as well as supportive care programs like art and music therapy; parent, teen, and sibling support groups; and child life specialists who help patients cope with illness and treatment.
I hope I can count on you to support my run by contributing to this wonderful program. To celebrate Megan’s life and spirit and to honor her memory, together we can make a difference in the lives of the kids at MGHfC and one day find a cure for childhood cancer.
