BENEFITING: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: 2012 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 16, 2012
Dear Friends and Family,
On April 16th 2012, I will be running the Boston Marathon with the Mass General Marathon Team, Fighting Kids’ Cancer … One Step at a Time. I will also be serving as one of the team’s captains. Our team supports the pediatric cancer research and patient care programs at MassGeneral Hospital for Children.
Our team started in 1998 when 10 runners raised $45,000 to support MassGeneral Hospital for Children. Now in our 14th year the team has grown to over 125 runners and has raised more than $6.7 million. These much-needed funds fuel innovative pediatric cancer research and help initiate effective new treatments. They also help support art and music therapy programs for patients during their clinical visits. Understanding the causes of cancer and improving therapy protocols are just two of the many vital ways that charitable donor support helps enhance the quality and longevity of life for young cancer patients.
The Mass General Marathon Team goes beyond just raising funds for pediatric cancer research and patient care programs at MassGeneral Hospital for Children. During the months leading up to the Boston Marathon many of the current patients being treated will join our team at pasta dinners, team parties and other events. On the night before the marathon a special banquet is held to honor these patients. Each patient will receive a personalized medal in recognition of their own battles with cancer. On marathon Monday these patients and MGH staff gather at mile 20 along heart break hill to cheer on our team. I can attest that their presence provides a much needed boost of energy to keep pushing towards the finish line!
With your help last year I was able to raise over $4,000. This year my goal is to raise $7,000. I am counting on the support of my family and friends to not only help me finish the race, but to also help me meet my fundraising goal. Please join me in my effort by donating any amount you can.
