BENEFITING: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: 2012 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 16, 2012
Here it is - year 6. Thank you for sticking with me all this time. First, let me thank you for all the years of support and money raised to fight cancer. I am so honored to again run for MassGeneral Hospital for Children. Below is some information about how your funds directly impact the lives of children with cancer.
This year, Team Cindy has a goal of $7000. While that sounds a lot, it is what we have been able to achieve over the past couple years!! All it takes is a few dollars from each of you, and we can easily reach this.
As an added incentive, i'm willing to take on any time based challenges. Last year my cousin pledged an increased donation if I beat my previous time by 10 min. You can bet that played through my mind the whole day. And what fun it was when I beat it by 30 minutes and got to remind him of his challenge! The time to beat is 5:04!
The marathon is April 16th. You'll be hearing more from me in the coming weeks. Thank you for your continued support.
About the Marathon Team
Since 1998, with the partnership of John Hancock Financial, the Mass General Marathon Team has raised over $6.7 million to support the pediatric hematology-oncology program at MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC). Funds raised are directed to cancer care and research initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the hospital’s youngest cancer patients.
The Child-Life Program
The Child-Life Program within the Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at MGHfC benefits every year from the funds raised by the Marathon Team. The program utilizes therapeutic play — including music and art therapy, massage and acupuncture — to help pediatric cancer patients and their families cope emotionally and developmentally with their illnesses. This year, more patients than ever before utilized Child-Life services, an indication of the growing popularity of the programming, the recognition of its importance and the program’s ability to continue to expand its offerings — thanks in large part to philanthropic dollars.
