What does it mean to inspire? One that lends courage, wisdom, kindness and unconditional love to others comes to mind. My 7 year old niece Alexandra goes beyond that and more. Since November 2010, Alexandra has been in a tough battle with leukemia and not a day passes in which she doesn't genuinely share her beautiful smile, a scrumptious recipe, story of friends and family and most importantly her love! She was born to inspire and along the way things like chemotherapy, a bone marrow transplant and trial drugs have taken her down paths that would make the toughest of the tough quit, but not Alexandra. The Boston Marathon will be my second one in the past 5 months that is in honor and support of Alexandra. She is excited to be a part of it all and mixed in with routine hospitalizations, Alexandra wants runners like myself to succeed which stems from her winning spirit and genuine love for people and life. Thank you for your support and remember to inspire others! Warmest regards, Dain K.
About the Marathon Team
Since 1998, with the partnership of John Hancock Financial, the Mass General Marathon Team has raised over $6.7 million to support the pediatric hematology-oncology program at MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC). Funds raised are directed to cancer care and research initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the hospital’s youngest cancer patients.
