BENEFITING: COVENANT BALLET THEATRE OF BROOKLYN
AN EXTRAORDINARY GIFT
Dear Covenant Ballet Family and Friends,
I often need to be reminded to eat, despite a great appreciation for food-and an earned reputation to "clean a plate." I think it's because the days I spend in service to dance and you, dear Covenant Family, are so full and so very satisfying, that I simply and honestly forget to eat.
But recently I was enmeshed in a vitally important-and tense-effort on behalf of our studio during which reminders would have done no good. I couldn't eat. A series of incidents-which sure looked and felt Divinely orchestrated-directed me through an open door where I found myself recounting our desperate plight to a pair of open and sympathetic ears. Here we were about to celebrate our 30th year of DANCE, but our facility crisis was threatening to dissolve us. And, here I was speaking to this gracious person, telling our story exactly as it was, and concluding it by asking for more money than I had ever dreamed of asking from anyone.
Please believe me: these sorts of transactions occur-if and when they do-rarely. No one ever rushes to help. But this angel not only did that, he even rushed to communicate his incredible decision, to keep us from reaching the end of our emotional rope. He had told us to expect an answer after three days-then gave it after two-in the morning!
So, dearest friends, with thanks and honor to God, and profound gratitude to a particular (unnamed) angel, we have signed a long term lease and have begun renovations for a fantastic new dance home. Sometime in early 2017, Covenant Ballet Theatre of Brooklyn will move into its new home at 251 Avenue U in Gravesend, Brooklyn, two floors dedicated to our precious students and dance excellence. Rejoice with us (but don't look for us there yet-there's still much work to do). Hallelujah sure seems like the right word!
Now, can you handle more good news? Keep reading to learn about the exciting collaborations we recently completed, about our unprecedented success in last semester's outreach into local schools, plus the first round of a series highlighting CBT's distinctives.
First, however, you need to know how our mystery donor has designed part of his great gift to include you. As you surely know, our modest tuition does not come close to meeting our normal operating expenses. That gap will likely be temporarily widened in the transition to our new facility. Therefore our donor has structured a significant portion of his gift-$20,000-to only become available after we (you and CBT) meet a specific condition, simple-but not easy. We first have to turn the $20,000 into $40,000.
And how do we do that? By first raising $20,000 in tax-deductible (as per law) gifts to CBT by November 26, 2016. This means that every dollar you donate would be doubled in power for your, our children and their achievement. But it means more, and for this I'd like to explain our donor's thinking. A factor that weighed heavily on our donor's mind was whether it wouldn't be a disservice to rescue us from this crisis because he knows that it cannot and will not be repeated. So, if Covenant is to succeed after the move, they must learn to face a crisis by getting close to one another and finding the resources nearby. It's important to me that you recognize our donor's sincerity-and wisdom-in setting up the gift this way. The move will cost a good deal more than 20k, but by the grace of God-and our anonymous friend-that will be cared for. Our friend knows that we regularly face deficits in the 20-50k range and he understands the importance of making Covenant Ballet Theatre and their supporters prove to themselves that they are capable of caring for their needs. I am sure he knew that we would rise to the challenge-and by doing it now, we'd all be readier to face by our own resources, any future challenge.
I share his confidence in us. And I'm happy to report that even before this letter was completed, the parents of a former CBT student learned of the Match Program and pledged $4,000 toward it. That means you only need to give $16,000 for us to raise $40,000!
So, please join me in giving our Angel donor the "biggest and best thank you" we can provide: by succeeding in our Matching campaign, and by flourishing in our work that enables our young students to succeed!
A heart filled with gratitude and joy,
