Please join me in making a difference in the lives of urban public school children.
I’m proud to participate in the second annual Mather Classroom Champions program to help raise funds for a great elementary school in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston. In fact, the Mather Elementary School has the distinction of being the first public elementary school in North America.
During these challenging economic times, schools are struggling to do more with less. The recession takes a particular toll on schools like the Mather that serve primarily low-income families. Now, more than ever, the Mather needs support from the community to help students overcome obstacles to reach their personal and academic potential.
For a glimpse of the wonderful children who attend the Mather, be sure to watch the YouTube video on this page. Your donation will make an immediate, meaningful impact in these students’ lives.
This year, I’m a Champion for Kelleigh Garland’s third grade class. Kelleigh is in her fifth year of teaching at the Mather, where she began her career. She teaches in an inclusion classroom, which means that students with and without disabilities learn together. According to Kelleigh, what impresses her most about her students this year is their “excitement for learning” and their “ability to grasp, retain and apply new vocabulary words” in spite of their various learning disabilities. What she values most about the Mather faculty is its diversity: “We are a group of people with very different backgrounds and cultures, yet are all working toward the same goal.” Her dream classroom would have new computers with speakers and literacy intervention software, along with a multi-cultural library.
Here’s how you can help:
• Make a tax-deductible donation today.
• Encourage your friends and family to make a donation.
• Sign up to volunteer by contacting Principal Cox at email@example.com.
Please help me ensure that the students in Kelleigh Garland's class have the tools and resources they need to learn well every day.
