Mathew Mixon joined the Vicksburg Swim Association (VSA) as Head Coach in November 2008. Since then, the swim team has grown in size, sportsmanship and achievement.
Mathew has over 26 years of experience in the sport of swimming. A native of Brandon, Mississippi, he started as an Age Grouper at age 4 and still holds several Jackson Summer League records dating back as far as 1988. He swam throughout high school at Brandon High School garnering the title of Mississippi Public High School State Champion in the 100 yard backstroke and in college at nationally ranked Division II Delta State University where he finished top 8 at the NSISL Conference Championship and graduated with a bachelor degree in Commercial Aviation.
Mathew previously served as Head Women’s and Men’s Coach at Madison Central High School leading the swim team to 2nd place in the Mississippi High School State Championship. He also served as Brandon High School’s Head Women’s and Men’s Coach where they achieved 4th place in the state during his tenure. In addition to leading the VSA Killer Whales, Mathew is also the current Head Women’s and Men’s Coach for Warren Central High School.
Mathew is an ASCA Level 1 Coach and attended the 2012 American Swim Coaches World Coaches Clinic in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mathew is owner and CEO of Live Slow, Swim Fast LLC and has provided thousands of private stroke lessons for the past 15 years, from beginners to nationally ranked USA Swimming Age Groupers.
Mathew served as Technical Planning Chair for Mississippi Swimming for two years and he currently serves on the Board of Directors for Mississippi Swimming as Age Group Chair.
Some fun facts about Mathew are his favorite stroke is the backstroke, he has been skydiving twice, he is an Ironman Cozumel Finisher, a Miami Ironman 70.3 Finisher, an Augusta Ironman 70.3 Finisher and a New Orleans Rock & Roll Marathon Finisher and he and his beautiful wife Lindsay have a beautiful little girl named Vida Rose.
