We the People! The Hell's Kitchen 45th- 46th Street community is raising funds to restore our playground park to recreate the beloved historic mural, "Against Domestic Colonialism", a 60' x 65' mural painted by the late artist Arnold Belkin. The mural was painted by Belkin and the community children in 1972 at a time when the city was in civil unrest. Belkin created this now historic mural as a message from the people to draw attention to the condition of the times. In addition to the historic value and the poignancy of the message to our times today, this mural is the last remaining mural by Belkin in the United States. The wall and the mural have fallen in a state of disrepair due to the years of damage caused by weather and neglect. We are asking for your help in donated funds to repair the wall and recreate our beloved mural. Our goal is to begin the wall repair Spring 2016 followed directly by the painting of the mural. Please come by the park to see the mural if you can - we are sure you will see the urgency to act now to repair the wall making sure we do not lose this important piece of NYC history. Your donation would be so very appreciated by the community, the city of NY and by the Arnold Belkin legacy.
