I first visited Africa in 2014 on a trip to Uganda with Parental Care Ministries (pictured left). On that trip, I was struck by the vast number of children and teenagers I saw, and thought to myself, “Young Life has to be here.” Young Life has been pivotal in my life and faith for over ten years - first as a teenager, then as a college leader, and finally as an adult volunteer and committee member. Over the years, I have experienced firsthand the profound impact Young Life leaders have on kids, as they share a message of hope and healing in the midst of a world filled with pain and brokenness. Returning from Uganda with a desire to see kids in Africa reached in the same way, a vision for a group of young men to stand by and support Young Life in Africa was born.
Over the last year and a half, I have had the privilege to connect with numerous African Young Life leaders and staff. These men and women are giving their lives for the sake of reaching kids all over the continent. One staff person in particular, who leads Young Life in the country we are raising money for, is literally risking all that he has, including his life, to reach kids in this hostile and dangerous place (referred to as Country X for security). It is with these incredible staff and leaders – and the thousands of kids they will reach – in mind, that I am climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and seeking to raise support for Young Life in Country X. I believe in this mission wholeheartedly and humbly ask you to consider joining me.
