BENEFITING: FRIENDS OF NORRIS COTTON CANCER CENTER
EVENT DATE: Jul 24, 2015
During a particularly rough patch of my father John’s cancer treatment, he defiantly made the declaration that he "would see the Alps!" A trip to Switzerland was booked, both for his experimental head and neck cancer treatment and to finally see firsthand the Alpine ridges. But the cancer had too far a head start, and he wouldn’t make it to see the white giants. He passed away peacefully on a crisp afternoon in January 2011.
He is missed everyday.
Next July I will be attempting a summit the Matterhorn in Zermatt, Switzerland, bringing with me some of my Dad’s ashes to scatter at the peak. He will, in the end, make it to the Alps.
My goal to raise $10,000 in support, all money going to Friends of the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital. During my father’s illness we spent many days with the kind, capable and pioneering staff of this cancer center in Lebanon, NH and Brattleboro, VT. These places helped my father find comfort and hope during his battle. The professionals here are working tirelessly in the search for a cure for cancer while providing some of the best care and treatment available. Their mission statement can be seen here: http://cancer.dartmouth.edu/about_us/mission_vision.html.
Cancer has had its time: help me further its elimination while strengthening its treatment and prevention.
