In May, 2012, a mission team from Rivers of the World, traveled to Democratic Republic of Congo to visit and assess the medical mission of a number of hospitals supported by the Presbyterian Church (USA). While these facilities receive some support from PCUSA, their needs far exceed that level of support. During visits to several of the hospitals, it was noted that a number of their beds lacked mattresses; in one, a small child, suffering severe malnutrition, sat on a small piece of ply wood on his bed's springs. When asked about this, we were told that mattresses had been burned several years ago following an ebola outbreak and that they had not yet been able to replace all of them.
The goal of this fundraiser is to raise funds to purchase new mattresses and other needed medical supplies for these hospitals which are located in some of the most remote places on earth. Originally, the fundraising goal was $25,000.00 by August 1, 2012. The response has been overwhelming and the origianal goal was met. But because of the outstanding response and the fact that there are many other needs at the hospitals in the Kasai, the goal has now been increased to $50,000, by December 25, 2012. Can we do it? I think we can, with your help. Thank you for your support of this cause.
