You may remember that we ran the Miami Marathon several years back. Well, the pain of those 26.2 miles must have sufficiently faded, because we are at it again – this time in New York and for a great cause.
On November 6, 2011, we will run the New York City Marathon on behalf of Grassroot Soccer, a wonderful non-profit to which we are both deeply committed.
Grassroot Soccer was founded by a former soccer teammate of Jay’s, Ethan Zohn. (You may also recognize Ethan’s name as he was the winner of the TV show Survivor some years ago .) Grassroot Soccer uses the power of soccer to inspire, educate, and mobilize young people in Africa to prevent HIV/AIDS. They enroll professional soccer players – some of the continent's most admired public figures – in programs that educate children about HIV/AIDS prevention and life skills. The goal of Grassroot Soccer is to reach and educate a million children by World Cup 2014. The New York City Marathon is Grassroot Soccer’s biggest fundraising event of the year and together with our Grassroot Soccer teammates, the team will raise almost $250,000 for the cause. We are training hard and looking forward to doing our part.
By this point in the letter, you probably guessed that this letter isn’t simply an update about what’s happening in our lives and a non-profit we support… We need your help.
Our brotherly goal is to raise $6,000 and we are casting our net widely to raise these funds. No contribution is too small (or too big!) and contributing is easy online at our personal fundraising sites:
If you prefer to send a check, please send it directly to Grassroot Soccer in the enclosed envelope. (Please be sure to write “Rosenthal Brothers” in the Memo field of your check.) Grassroot Soccer is a registered 501c3 and all contributions are tax deductible.
Over the next several months, we will be running, stretching, and hydrating in effort to prepare for the marathon. Knowing that we will be running together, for a great cause, and with your support, will make it a very special experience.
Thank you for your consideration.
