My grandfather does not want his picture on the internet, so this is a picture of me and my mother (his daughter) from Christmas 2014. See more
It seems like every possible health risk can be found in my family's medical history. Over the past year, I have been battling with issues of blood pressure. This is what initially lead me to running and trying to get back into shape. I want to be healthy for my wife and family. I began running competitive races this year. About the same time I started racing, my only living grandparent, my grandfather Bonnie, was diagnosed with lung cancer. For my entire life, he has been one of the toughest, most rugged men I've ever known. As he's begun his battle with cancer, this has only been reaffirmed. He has faced chemotherapy with a toughness and grit that aligns with his blue collar Southern roots. As he continues his fight, I want to do all that I can to help not only him, but all those who are dealing with cancer or a family member with cancer. Please consider donating to the American Cancer Society so people like my grandfather can have all possible advantages in their battles with cancer.
