BENEFITING: CENTAUR STRIDE INC
EVENT DATE: Mar 17, 2013
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
I have been participating in the programs at Centaur Stride for about five years now. I love going there. I ride Dude and I want to sponsor him for the walk-a-thon. It costs a lot to run Centaur Stride and I am happy to help with any project that I can. Lessons are only $20 so we have to do lots of fundraisers to keep prices low so more people can afford to go there. My mom helps a lot too and is the Treasurer of the Board of Directors. I am on “Team Dude” and with others on my team, we are trying to raise the $3500 per year that it takes to care for him. That care includes all his food and shelter, training and conditioning, farrier and vet bills, dentist, and any special needs that come up. I need to ride Dude because he is narrow across his withers so I can get my legs around him. He is also very gentle. I can ride by myself and am learning to trot. Another program called in Project Horseworks has been in the works for a few years now. I was able to participate twice but it is still not a sustainable program. It is a program for people who want to volunteer, like me, but can’t do a lot of the requirements by myself yet. There are extra helpers and projects that help us to become more independent, but I really liked being able to do something fun with other people. We had a garden and sold our produce and items at the farmer’s market. We also sold manure for gardens. We made things. It was fun! I’m hopeful that the program might start again this year.
The Walk-a-thon is March 17th at the Chautauqua Mall from 2-3 pm. If you can’t join us, please consider making a contribution to “Team Dude”. I hope you can visit the center someday and see all the benefits for yourself. Your donation helps so many others besides me. Thank you!
My dad did a lot to help Centaur Stride. He passed away in September (2012) from cancer and my family donated all the Memorials to benefit Centaur Stride programs. A Memorial Garden will be built this Spring. I hope more people will come to see what Centaur Stride is all about.
