This March, I'm running the Rock 'n' Roll USA 1/2 Marathon in DC on behalf of the Spondylitis Association of America, which educates and empowers individuals living with Ankylosing Spondylitis. Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) is a genetic, chronic progressive form of rheumatoid arthritis. Three things you should know: there is no cure yet, we learn more about how to treat it each and every day, and I'm one of about 2 million other Americans with it.
Now a year into my diagnosis, I've been extremely lucky to live an active and full life that hasn't deviated far from who I was a year ago. But many others facing AS are not as fortunate. Everyone deserves to have the support structure and the education that I've had this past year. And that's what SAA is all about.
The money we raise will 1) fund new medical research dedicated to curing and treating AS, 2) help broaden the scope and impact of social services geared to those managing AS, and 3) implement measures to help detect AS early on in hopes of preserving a high quality of life for current and future generations.
Thanks in advance for your help and support. Let's give it a go, and Kick AS.
