This November, I'll be running in New York City Marathon. I was one of the "lucky" lottery winners who was given a non-qualifying, non-fundraising spot in the race. While I'm looking forward to running New York for my own personal satisfaction, I also see this as a great opportunity to raise money for an amazing cause. The Angel Fund is a leading organization in the fight against ALS.
I first heard of the Angel Fund when my friend Jim was diagnosed with ALS. Each year, Jim's family hosts a comedy night to benefit the Angel Fund. While Jim continues today to fight this terrible disease, the staff at the Angel Fund continue their efforts to find a cure for ALS.
For those of you who don't know Jim, I first knew him as my manager at Lincoln Lab. With my qualifications at the time, he had no business hiring me as a co-op student, but I think he liked my Three Stooger's tie, so he took a chance. Over the following years, Jim was a mentor to me not only as a techincal advisor, but I always admired his ability to lead such a balanced life. Since then, I have become friends with his amazing family, and I've really come to appreciate the strength and willpower Jim possesses.
Through my fund raising, I'm not only looking to raise money for a great organization, but I'm also looking to do my part in supporting Jim's beliefs. As I do not have a fundraising requirement, please do not feel obligated to donate; but if you choose to do so, I really appreciate your support. If you cannot dontate at this time, please consider helping out at future Angle Fund events, and certainly think of me on November 4th while I'm running my 26.2.
By the way, I do have one marathon under my belt. A couple years ago, I ran Las Vegas in 3:42. While this isn't a bad first race, I came up short of my goal. This time, I am setting a goal to finish around 3:20 (7m38s miles). Hopefully my to-be one month old boy will be at the finish line waiting for me!
Thank you everyone,
