BENEFITING: National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Oct 23, 2011
My sister Tricia lives in Tucson and is fighting stage 3 ovarian cancer. I want to do something to make her smile so I'm raising money for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition by running The Mt. Lemmon marathon in Tucson October 23, 2011. It's uphill 6000 ft. in 26.2 miles. Tough for a flat lander from Milwaukee maybe, but much easier than the mountain my sister has to climb. So I'll run mine while she battles hers and you can help her feel good by donating money through this site to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.
"The mission of the NOCC is to raise awareness and promote education about ovarian cancer. The Coalition is committed to improving the survival rate and quality of life for women with ovarian cancer.....More than 20,000 women in the United States are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year, and approximately 15,000 women die annually from the disease. Unfortunately, most cases are diagnosed in their later stages when the prognosis is poor. However, if diagnosed and treated early, when the cancer is confined to the ovary, the five-year survival rate is over 90 percent. That is why it is imperative that the early signs and symptoms of the disease are recognized, not only by women, but also by their families and the medical community."
All monies donated go to the NOCC (minus fees paid to crowdrise and the credit card processor- see the fine print elsewhere on the crowdrise website)
