BENEFITING: COMMUNITY UPGRADES INC
EVENT DATE: Dec 30, 2010
HOURS PLEDGED: 150
A large number of our community’s mature adults and handicapped find it difficult to care for their
properties. Some of the reasons for this include lack of physical ability and fixed or low income. The
results are a host of issues. Included in these issues are electrical problems which makes the house unsafe,
plumbing problems, leaky roof, outdated and rotting windows which causes excessive loss of energy,
unpainted exteriors (which result in a deterioration of the property), yards with an un-kept appearance, unswept
pavements, which all result in an eye sore in the community and loss of property value. This is a
situation that need not exist.
We have in our midst individuals committed by the courts to do community service. Community Upgrades
proposes to utilize some of these individuals to handle the task which do not require knowledge of a skilled
trade. Community Upgrades also proposes to develop partnerships with schools for the development of
skilled trades and businesses that provide these services. Our partnership with the training institutions
would include Community Upgrades providing the opportunity for hands on training through work orders
from seniors and the handicapped. This would be a win win situation. It would be a win for the student, and
school and it would be a win for the seniors the handicapped. The partnership with the businesses would
among other things give them the opportunity to give back to the communities that support them.
Community Upgrades also proposes to reach out to skilled trades’ individuals and retirees to give of their
time to take on some jobs or to mentor and oversee some of the students.
Community Upgrades also proposes to develop partnerships with factories that produce building materials,
retailers that handle these items and funders (both private and public). These commitments will not only
give quality to the lives of our mature adults and handicapped, but also add to the beautification and the
greening of our city and state.
Community Upgrades will not be a party to the solicitation of any for profit work either for itself or
