Organized by: Maura McAndrew

THE STORY:

Hi everyone, my name is Maura McAndrew and I am a sophomore at Smith College and a member of the soccer team. I was recently accepted to work as a volunteer in Granada, Nicaragua for a week long Soccer Without Borders program in January 2017. Girls in Nicaragua face many obstacles in their lives; 28% are pregnant by age 18, 52% do not complete primary school, and many are expected to raise younger siblings. By providing dedicated leaders and mentors through the sport of soccer, SWB Nicaragua gives girls in Granada the social, economic, and educational support to overcome obstacles and achieve their personal goals.

I will spend a week coaching soccer to students, and being a team leader and mentor. I am raising money for a contribution to this program. I am also planning to take 50lbs of gently used soccer equipment, so if you or anyone you know has any, please let me know!
