BENEFITING: COALITION FOR HEALTHIER EATING
We are working with sustainable farmers to bring fresh produce, dairy and meat products to low-income people in eastern North Carolina. We help growers get authorized to accept SNAP cards so that people can eat healthy fresh food instead of buying junky food at the grocery store.
Our region has high rates of heart disease, stroke, obesity and diabetes from many years of poor eating habits. Our founder Maxine knows first-hand that healthy eating can often reverse these illnesses. Once she overcame her own health crisis, she wanted to share the magic of fresh local food with others.
We may not look like typical foodies as many of our growers and customers are people of color. We are a diverse region blessed with the soil and climate to grow many types of food.
We need this fundraiser to raise the matching funds to receive a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to outfit our food processing center in Bethel, NC and expand our reach. Please donate and help us feed more people!
