BENEFITING: Maywood Fine Arts Foundation
It is the blood, sweat and joy of the Baumann Family, operated by the queen bee Lois Baumann. Stairway of the Stars has been teaching high quality dance instruction at a very low cost to the children of Maywood and surrounding communities.
And when Dancing was just not enough for Lois & Ernie Baumann they had a brain child across the street from their studio, and birthed the Maywood Fine Arts Association. Now kids could dance at Stairway, and then run across the street for music, art or theater lessons. Or they could take gymnastics with Ernie, and be apart of Flip Flop & Fly!
Until two weeks ago. . .
After 30 years, Stairway of the Stars burnt down!
This project is to help the Baumann Family: Ernie, Louis, Heidi, Spooner, Purdie, Tango, Oliver, & Lily; REBUILD Stairway of the Stars.
The main pic is from about 1986 — I think. The dance, 'In The Navy'. I can remember watching this performance. It was moving. The choreography and enthusiasm completely inspired me. I was twelve.
Lois has a way of connecting with everyone around her. Her commitment to the children in her community is her life's work. Her commitment to dance is visceral. Just walk in her studio, and you will be moving in no time. Her daughter, Heidi, has been teaching dance at the Stars for as long as I can remember. To dance with Lois and Heidi is complete JOY.
A bit about MFAA:
In 1996 with the help of concerned parents and community members the Maywood Fine Arts Association was established as a not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation. Their goal was to combat the escalating rate of drug activity, gang involvement, and teenage pregnancy by providing the young people of Maywood and surrounding communities with healthy after school and weekend activities in fine and performing arts.
MFAA has set up a Stairway Recovery Fund.
