MB Goes to Kenya

Dear friends & family,
On June 20th, we are traveling to Kenya to participate in the Moses Brown Kenya Service and Safari student trip. During our first week in Kenya, we will be working with children and teachers in the rural villages of Chebuyusi and Sidikho in Western Kenya. We are very excited about this opportunity to learn from and about the people in these farming communities. We will spend time in their homes and their schools, gaining a better understanding not only about their lives but also about ourselves, as we get to know and work with them.

The children in Chebuyusi and Sidikho all have access to state-run schools, and their families place a high priority on education as a means for gaining better opportunities for their children’s futures. When one of our Moses Brown teachers visited the schools in 2012, she came to appreciate the determination and resourcefulness of the Kenyan students and teachers
Unfortunately, as a poor farming community access to learning materials is minimal, so we are hoping to combine our cultural experience with some service work. Among the projects we hope to complete are:

1. Painting classroom walls and repairing desks
2. Installing wall clocks with batteries and solar rechargers
3. Providing wall posters and learning materials for the nursery classrooms
4. Bringing extra-curricular equipment such as balls, jump-ropes, etc.

We hope you will consider supporting us in this adventure by donating to the fund we have set up to purchase the supplies needed for the above projects. Not only will your money help to make our own experience more powerful, but it will also directly affect the daily life of school children in Sidikho and Chebuyusi.

Thank you for your consideration.
