THE STORY:

LIZ RUNS 2 END HOMELESSNESS: Help me help end homelessness in Boston! I am running to raise $5,000. Every dollar  will help the  MBHP expand their work to end homelessness and housing insecurity in the city that is home to our beloved Boston Marathon. I will be pounding the pavement all winter and covering 26.2 miles in April becuase everyone deserves a home.Thank you for considering a donation. MY STORY & WHY I'M RUNNING FOR MBHP:   I am a social justice advocate and a runner. Aside from my title of "Mom", these are the things that define me. My decision to run the 2015 Boston Marathon as part of MBHP team affords me a magnificent opportunity to weave together all that I am passionate about in life and to model for my son another of the many ways that each of us can make a difference in the world.

Over the past two decades I have worked in a range of careers and for a variety of organizations to raise awareness of the needs of vulnerable populations. I believe passionately that it is our responsibility as fellow human beings to create a just and equitable world that offers dignity to all. Much of my work on boards and in my own scholarship has been linking issues of affordable housing and access to and with larger questions of what it means to be part of a community. What do we owe one another? What are we called to do with what we have been given?

I am also a life-long runner who finds in running, peace, solace,
strength, opportunity for growth, challenge and self-discovery. Since I was eleven and through surgeries, injuries, illness and the inevitable complexities of life, I have found running to be my center and to a tremendous gift through life's ups and downs....ups and downs that include housing vulnerability.

I grew up in a large family which found itself on the brink of homelessness when I was in high school. We were saved from losing our home thanks only to the care and compassion of others who stepped in to help. Since then, in my work on volunteer boards, in my time spent as a full-time volunteer with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and in my day-to-day career as a professor and public humanities scholar, I have devoted my life to keeping the needs of ALL at the forefront of public policy and civic discussions.

As many reading this may know, I have in the past and continue to collaborate with organizations working to end homelessness and create permanent, affordable housing. Such housing is at the core of thriving communities, thriving lives, thriving families. Since I live in the greater Boston area I am blessed to have been selected to run with MBHP. I see myself running for all those who are currently caught up in the difficult task of finding a place to call home. I will be running in April to make give voice to THEIR needs. I will be running to make sure that many more people in this world we all share have a place to call home. My reasons are both simple and profound. This is why I run.

Thank you for helping support the work of MBHP by supporting me.

In gratitude,

Liz.
