BENEFITING: MAINE CHILDRENS ALLIANCE
Maine Children’s Alliance (MCA) is full of energy and new beginnings this season. Staff changes this winter have brought us a new senior policy analyst, Mary Henderson, long known for her leadership in Maine and around the region supporting working families and advocating for access to health care for all.
Mary brings the strong committed voice of MCA to policy-makers, speaking out during the difficult process of setting a state budget and evaluating hundreds of new bills, to highlight the challenges for Maine’s children who badly need care and support.
At the State House, at regional meetings, in conversations with policy-makers, we at MCA never forget that nearly 1 in 5 children in Maine live in poverty, thousands still lack health coverage, and many are struggling in school. We are working hard every day in Augusta to make sure that important action is taken:
* Reversal of recent budget cuts to Head Start, child care, and home visiting programs
* Access to affordable preventative health care for all children;
* Full support for the federal family benefit programs that support low-income Maine children;
* Progress towards quality public education.
In order to make sure MCA can continue this important work for Maine’s children, we need you on our team. Please celebrate the arrival of spring, and the new chances it gives all our children. Give generously to support MCA and our unique role speaking out for Maine’s youngest citizens who cannot vote and cannot speak for themselves in the policy arena. By sharing your hope for our children, you are helping ensure that MCA continues to be a strong sustainable organization, working to improve the lives of Maine children by providing comprehensive data, advocating for sensible public policy, and collaborating with partners.
