BENEFITING: MCCOURT FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: MCCOURT FOUNDATION
EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
For the second year in a row I will be running the Boston Marathon for The McCourt Foundation: a charity organization whose vision is a world without MS or Alzheimer's. The funds raised will go toward education, research, and assistance to patients and their families living with these diseases.
Throughout my 2016 Boston Marathon experience while raising funds for The McCourt Foundation, many family members, friends, and even people I was meeting for the first time told me their stories of how MS or Alzheimer’s altered their lives. Even though there was pain weaved throughout their words, there was also hope: hope for a brighter future where these diseases don’t exist anymore.
The presence of hope has pushed me to continue my fight against MS and Alzheimer’s, and hope is why I am running and fundraising for a second consecutive year. The quote, ‘To whom much is given, much is expected’ has always stuck with me, and because my family and I have been given the gift of good health, those words serve as my call to action. Since much truly has been given to me, I feel the strong desire to give thanks by giving back to others.
Although there is very little I can do to directly help those affected by MS and Alzheimer's (outside of keeping them in my prayers each night), running the Marathon in their honor and fundraising for these diseases is the least I can do. By running the Boston Marathon with the McCourt Foundation and raising funds, I can do my part to support a cause that will fund MS and Alzheimer’s research and will hopefully find a cure for these cruel diseases.
