Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory's (MDIBL) reMAINE Healthy program is a unique translational research collaborative that reaches across Maine to tackle one of the top state, national and world health care priorities.
Scientists and physicians have partnered together from four of Maine’s renowned institutions, MDIBL, The Jackson Laboratory, Maine Medical Center and it’s research institution.
We are working to take laboratory discoveries and “translate” them into new tools for early diagnosis, treatment or prevention of chronic kidney disease in humans.
In the US chronic kidney disease affects 26 million adults and over $42 billion is spent annually treating patients with the disease.
It is a major diagnostic challenge, as people with early stages of the disease tend not to have any symptoms. The most common causes of kidney disease are hypertension and diabetes.
The Center for Disease Control predicts that 1 in 3 people in the US will develop diabetes by the year 2050.
reMAINE Healthy’s cutting edge research with novel approaches to cost and time savings may be Maine-centric, but the impact is borderless.
Your support will enable discoveries to prevent kidney disease. Many thanks for your donation to the reMAINE Healthy program at the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory!
