BENEFITING: MOUNT DESERT ISLAND HISTORICAL SOCIETY
ORGANIZER: MOUNT DESERT ISLAND MARATHON INC
The Mount Desert Island Historical Society fosters meaningful engagement with the histories of Mount Desert Island. This year, the funds we raise will support our history education programs. This past spring we launched our expanded Vintage Classroom, which invited Mount Desert Island's third-grade classes to experience the 19th-century village of Sound. The classes interacted with many island characters, including a strict school marm, a singing instructor, fisherman, farmers and quarry workers. All characters were based on real people from the 1890s. The play received enthusiastic praise from students and teachers who encouraged us to pursue further collaborations with island schools. Your funds will help us continue these programs and fund the work of student researchers with the goal of engaging the youth of MDI with the histories of their community.
The film overview of the Vintage Classroom play is linked to our profile.
On race day listen for our percussion ensemble at the Old School House & Museum on Sound Drive in Mount Desert, near mile 18 of the Marathon, or mile 6 of the Half-Marathon.
The Mount Desert Island Marathon, Half-Marathon & Team Relay is pleased to help support MDI Historical Society.
