Marina Del Rey Anglers really needs financial help so we can rebuild the White Seabass Pens. Please donate to help the fish. We have a genuine need for lots of hardware that needs to be paid for before we can order and install them into this vital Marine Aquaculture project. It is important for the Southern California marine environment that we continue to restock the fish into the ocean.
We have been very successful raising baby white seabass for years. The pens have released 93,753 healthy juvenile fish into the Pacific Ocean so far. But due to the age and damage sustained in the recent rebuild of the county docks we must now rebuild our fish grow-out pens from the water up.
Hard money is needed for the dock floats; wood for the decks (dock); haul out at the yard and repair time in the yard; new fence enclosure and roof (most costly); pumps and hoses; electrical systems to lead to pumps and feeders; screening; bird deterrents; cables; screening; many small misc. parts; timers for the fish feeders and a few more items. This adds up. Luckily some items are being heavily discounted or offered for free or the needed sum could tally around $45,000. We just need to get close to the $24,000 before we order the “haul out” to the repair yard and get started.
We in MDRA will be the “boots on the dock” team supplying labor and managers of the project for free. Once rebuilt we will care for the fish and raise them until they are big enough to survive then release them into the wild. This is a needed environmental program. And this is also an educational tool for local youth learning about the ocean environment.
With your help we can get back to raising fish by 2015!
