EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
6 Years Running.......and I can't see it any other way! I am so proud to be able to run the Boston Marathon for the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress (MDSC) in 2015. The MDSC has been a part of our family since our son Cole was born 8 years ago and because of their tremendous efforts Cole (and so many others) will have the brightest future possible.
For those of you that know Cole, you know how big his heart is, the incredible joy he gets from the "little" things, and how determined and smart he truly is. With that being said, if you know Cole, you know how stubborn he can be, how persistant he can be if he wants something or how he will tell you exactly how it is, whether you want to hear it or not. He is real. He is amazing and he holds my heart in the palm of his hands each and every day!
It's funny, through out the years I've come to learn that when someone learns of Cole having Down syndrome, if they have no experience with Down syndrome, the immediate response is apologetic and sad. When I meet someone fortunate enough to know someone with Down syndrome, they don't apologize, they are so excited, and it's my sense that is because they understand the genuineness our loved ones with Down syndrome possess. A bond is instantaneously there, just another positive thing that comes with Down syndrome!
Yes, people with Down syndrome are inique in their own ways, but being inique and different, I think you will agree; is a great thing. I stumbled upon something a while back on Facebook and I do want to apologize to the author for not giving her proper credit, but what she wrote struck a chord inside of me:
"I believe that a world that celebrates differences, that accepts and includes people for who they are, and learns to see people first and disabilities second, is a more beautiful one......."
Thank you for helping me to do this and to help support an organization that speaks to this each and every day while advocating for our loved ones with Down syndrome. Your support is GREATLY appreciated!
The Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress strives to ensure all individuals with Down syndrome are valued, included, and given opportunities to lead meaningful lives in the community by providing information, networking opportunities, and advocacy for people with Down syndrome and their families, educators, health care professionals, and the community-at-large.
