THE STORY:

Welcome to my Fundraiser Page!

I am running the Boston Maraton in April 2015 to raise awarness and support for this amazing program that provides for the unique indiviuals and families of those with Down Syndrome.  I'm working to help this organization provide the opportunities that my family didn't have when my younger sister was in school.

Katy is my 25 year old sister who lives with my amazing parents in central Maine.  She was born with both Down syndrom and Austism.  As is the same for most people with Down's; she is full of laughter, wants to be involved, but also enjoy's some solitude.  She loves musicals, riding her bike, basketball, and bumpy boat rides.  In school it was a challenge to find her the resources she needed to learn in the classroom.  She had some teachers and aids that went out of their way to help educate her when she was in their classroom, while others saw a burden.  Most found her bubbly attitude and amazing smile to be contagious and wanted to help. The school system needed better resources  to learn the best ways to work with children with disabilities.

My parents are both both heros for never giving up on her and striving to find the best avenues through local programs to help Katy live life to the fullest.

Today she does her part to help the compunity by stocking shelves at the local the food cuboard.

Please do your part and be a hero. Help families like mine have better opportunities and resourses for  providing the best for children with Down's.

Thank you

Ryan Trott

The Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress strives to ensure all individuals with Down syndrome are valued, included, and given opportunities to lead meaningful lives in the community by providing information, networking opportunities, and advocacy for people with Down syndrome and their families, educators, health care professionals, and the community-at-large.

Since 2012, the MDSC has been an official charity of the John Hancock™ Non-Profit Marathon Program.  We are proud to return as an official charity for the renowned 2015 Boston Marathon™ and are grateful for the charity bibs we received from the John Hancock™ Non-Profit Marathon Program for the 119th Boston Marathon.

Each year, Team MDSC raises significant awareness and funds that directly support our programs and services, such as Parents First Call, AIM: Teen and Young Adult Program, the Self-Advocate Advisory Council, Educational Resources, and our local and national advocacy efforts to improve the lives of all individuals with Down syndrome.
