Help bring awareness to the #MillionsMissing, and the disabling disease M.E.
The #MillionsMissing are 20 million people worldwide suffering from Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E), commonly called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. They are students who can no longer attend class. Parents missing from raising their kids. Professionals cut down in the prime of their careers. Now confined to their homes or beds, they are missing work, personal accomplishments, and social contributions.
For decades, these patients have been pushed to the margins of medicine, without equal access to treatment or research. With no voice, patients suffered without hope.
That changed in 2016. #MEAction, a global network of patients and allies led a worldwide protest to raise awareness and demand better clinician training, better-funded research, and government oversight for M.E.
In May, 13 countries around the world held protests. In September, 24 cities in 9 countries will demand change for M.E. patients. This kind of groundbreaking, global mass effort has never been seen before for this disease. We have already seen successes, having generated meetings with health officials, and politicians to discuss our demands for increased research and medical education. But in order to grow this movement, and bring the #MillionsMissing back to their lives, we need your help.
OUR GOAL: $80,000
Help hire a PR firm for #MillionsMissing ($9,000) - GOAL MET!
Help us raise awareness about ME so that it reaches government, media, and clinicians. $9,000 can hire a Washington, D.C.-based PR firm that specializes in grassroots campaigns. The firm will primarily focus on US cities but will provide PR support and media training for all participants.
Build the #MillionsMissing movement
Any funding raised beyond $9,000 will help build our technical infrastructure, and provide vital budgets for local protests.
- Give local protest sites around the world the opportunity to create and print materials, cover travel costs and create compelling installations like shoe displays
- Support tech tools like hosting videoconferencing, petitions and event scheduling
- Help us staff our social media channels, websites and email program. Give us the manhours needed to coordinate protests, and create materials
