Meaghen's New York Marathon 2014
Organized by: HumaneAfrica
EVENT DATE Nov 02, 2014
My crazy self has decided to train to run The NYC Marathon (again!) November 2, 2014! This marathon is special for me as I have decided to again raise money for HumaneAfrica, my dear friend Simon's charity. Many of you supported my last fundraising efforts for HumaneAfrica and with your help, I was able to raise $5000! This money helped HumaneAfrica work with two communities in Uganda where previously children had been mutilated on a regular basis. Two of these communities where HumaneAfrica got involved have remained completely free of all mutilations---your donations directly saved the lives of children in Uganda! Not only that, we were also able to support a child and their family who previous to HumaneAfrica's involvement in the community had been mutilated.
HumaneAfrica over the last two years has discovered a number of children with disabilities who are excluded from society - locked away without proper care and some are abused physically and sexually. HumaneAfrica has identified a number of children and are hoping to work with their families and their community on the social inclusion of children with disabilities. This will mean children who had previously been locked away will now have access to therapy, a balanced diet, education and will also be viewed as valued members of their communities.
Running continues to be my personal time for reflection. While enduring the next 16 weeks of preparation for the marathon, my mind will often reflect on the many children we will help in Uganda. I have made a commitment to this charity and have pledged to raise $5000 by November 2, 2014. I hope you will consider joining me on this journey by making a donation to my campaign. Please know that no donation is too small.
HumaneAfrica is a registered US non profit organization applying for 501c3 tax exempt status. Anyone who wishes to make tax deductible contributions just needs to let me know and I will send a receipt once HumaneAfrica's application has been accepted.
Thank you so much for your support! I am so excited to have the opportunity help many more children in Uganda.
