Meals From Mothers
Organized by: Mother Voice
We are the facebook group MotherVoice, made up of moms who want to be involved in social change. Our goal is to start a conversation about what we can do about the growing racial violence in our country so that our children can grow up to respect and love all people, and so that we can live in a world now where every person of every race is treated with dignity, respect and safety.
When someone we know has a new baby we bring a meal. When someone passes on, we bring a meal. When a loved one is sick, we bring a meal. When a friend is going through a tough time, we get together for a meal. Food brings comfort and implies a personal, healing connection coming from a place of love and concern.
We cannot fathom what the families of the women and men slain at the Mother Emanuel Church are going through this week. We cannot begin to imagine their grief. their thoughts, their feelings. As mothers, the tragedy reaches us deeply and calls us to action. We may not know what to do, or what to say right now. All we can do at this moment is reach out and offer a meal and say, "We care. We are thinking of you." The funds raised here will go directly to the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church to provide meals for the grieving families. We will specify that the funds be used for this purpose, but if the church finds it easier to use it for another purpose in helping the families, so be it.
