Medals4Mettle (M4M) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that facilitates the gifting of marathon, half marathon, and triathlon finishers’ medals to children and adults facing serious, life-threatening, or chronic debilitating illnesses.
Runners and race walkers from around the world give their hard-earned medals to Medals4Mettle. Our worldwide network of physicians and volunteers then awards these medals, attached to a Medals4Mettle ribbon, to those who might not be able to run a race, but are often in a race for their own lives. It is in honor of this mettle and courage in bravely facing these challenges that they are awarded a medal. Medals4Mettle celebrates our collective human courage, and our innate desire to reward and support each other as we all face life’s challenges.
Marathoners and triathletes experience the cheers of support from total strangers as they run through the streets to their finish line. M4M gives athletes the chance to return this concern and support to others by offering a means to gift earned medals to those facing serious illnesses and disabilities, who may need encouragement in fealing with their personal health issues. We see the connection between the weeks a marathoner or triathlete spends training for an event to the hours a cancer patient may spend receiving chemo, or the time an accident victim spends learning how to walk again.
Since forming in 2005, Medals4Mettle chapters have presented over 18,000 medals. All of our chapter coordinators are volunteers, and we provide our services at no cost to any of the organizations and hospitals we work with.
