For many local indigenous people, Mayan Families is their only access point to affordable and quality healthcare. Guatemala experiences numerous health-related problems such as communicable diseases, chronic undernutrition and maternal mortality.
Mayan Families’ Charlie Gomez Medical Clinic aims to provide consistent, quality health care options for people living in communities around the Lake Atitlán area. The clinic provides preventative and primary health care to people of all ages with a focus on health education and promotion.
Any illness within the family may cause a child to drop out of school to work in order to help pay bills. Mayan Families’ Medical Aid Program aims to address the health problems of our clientele, improve school attendance and maximize the potential of our students. The goal is to reduce chronic malnutrition, provide support and education to whole family, and ensure the well-being of multiple generations. By supporting the community and ensuring access to preventative health care services and education through our clinic, we are better able to serve and empower indigenous Guatemalans.
